Canyon Cinema has been invited to celebrate the centennial of the Canyon School (in Canyon California) with the local community and we are delighted to participate. The outdoor screening will begin at 7pm and will include an array of works by Canyon Cinema co-founders Bruce Baillie and Chick Strand, as well as Les Blank and others as requested by the longtime residents of Canyon.  This event is free and open to the public!

Located only 10 miles from downtown Oakland, the community of Canyon, California is the birthplace and namesake of Canyon Cinema, where in 1961 a group of visionary artists and filmmakers started screening films for friends and neighbors in Baillie’s yard. Join us with the Canyon community as we conclude the centennial picnic and celebration with a screening of 16mm films and reminiscences from Canyon residents about the early days of Canyon Cinema.
