George Lucas and his Alaskan malamute Indiana. Indiana was the inspiration for the Star Wars character Chewbacca, and later became the source of Indiana Jones’ name.

We are excited to announce that the George Lucas Family Foundation has renewed their commitment to Canyon Cinema Foundation with a generous year-end contribution of $50,000.

Mr. Lucas has been a long-time supporter of Canyon, citing screenings and filmmakers as early influences on his love of cinema. He also contributed substantially to the organization in 2007, enabling Canyon to launch its first website. This is the second consecutive year we have received support from the George Lucas Family Foundation and will directly impact our ability to become viable nonprofit organization.

Heart-felt thanks and appreciation to Mr. Lucas and the staff and board of the Foundation for their continued support of experimental and independent film.
