Lumphini 2552 (2009, 3 minutes, b&w, sound, 35mm)
This work was shot with a still camera in Lumphini Park in Bangkok, Thailand. The home-developed film projects the organic patterns present in the memorial park onto the screen, creating a rhythmic yet emotional tempo. At the same time, the images captured by the still camera are recorded onto an optical soundtrack, which can be heard as sound. The park’s name, “Lumpini,” comes from the Sanskrit word for “Lumbini,” the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal, and the year 2552 in the Buddhist calendar corresponds to the year 2009 in the Gregorian calendar.
