Elective Affinities (Re:Voir DVD)

"At the first screening of Horizons in London, I watched it with wide, bright eyes and found it very beautiful. Later, I listened to Gottheim talk about the film. I discovered the complex network of correspondences and rhymes of images within it. During my second and third viewings, I was very focused on seeing and understanding the correspondences and rhymes. But I found the film just as beautiful, if not more so. The fourth viewing was again a completely unintentional one, with wide-open eyes. At the screening at the Cooper Union, I suddenly discovered the incredible richness of the colors. I sat close to the screen and saw these vibrant colors and was amazed that I could watch Horizons four times without noticing the splendor of its colors." (Jonas Mekas)

"Mouches Volantes eveals itself and folds back before us, just like the waves on the beach in sections 5 and 6. The shots themselves become familiar images, as does the magical and mysterious soundtrack. The film's tone shifts from stark black and white to muted color and back again. All this cyclical lyricism creates a fullness, an organic whole." (Raymond Foery)
