In 1999 my husband Stephen, my son James, and my parents visited Verdun. When I first lived in France in the 1960s we often went as a family to visit war sites around France. At Verdun I exposed a roll of 16mm film without a camera to the light of the battlefield. I also had my video camera, and photographed my young son in the landscape.
