Preview Policy

Effective June 1, 2025

Canyon’s fee for in-person preview screenings is $45.00 per hour, billed in one-hour increments. This fee helps cover the staff time involved in preparing and projecting film prints for visitors. If the standard hourly rate is prohibitive, please contact info@canyoncinema.com to discuss alternative arrangements.

We require at least three-weeks advance notice for research appointments. Please note that appointments cannot be guaranteed and are contingent upon staff availability.

Canyon’s office is open Monday-Thursday, 10am-6pm. Appointments are typically scheduled in two-hour blocks.

Note: Some films in the collection have preview restrictions that prevent us from being able to provide in-person film projection. In general we cannot provide research access to prints where the following conditions apply:

1. To protect and extend the life of rare prints we do not project 16mm prints unless there is no other available option to view the film (i.e. video/digital copies available, published DVD or Blu-ray copies, online streaming services, etc.). For films that Canyon holds digital copies of, we can provide limited-term streaming access via a password-protected Vimeo showcase.

2. We cannot project films in cases where filmmakers/estates have placed restrictions on previewing their prints.

3. We cannot project 35mm, Super 8, or Regular 8 films in house.
