Beth Block

Beth Block is a filmmaker and media artist who works in film, photography and installation.

Her 16mm experimental and documentary films have been screened internationally and are included in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Canadian Film Board. They have screened at MOMA and won awards at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and tour, Sinking Creek, Black Maria, and Philadelphia Film Festivals.

Since 2007 she has worked in 1080p digital cinema. Her film 57 Jobless premiered at the 2010 Athens Film Festival and Leaky Mountain premiered at the 2011 Athens Film Festival and is also included in an international travelilng film series, "Water, Water Everywhere."

She has worked professionally in the film industry throughout her career, first doing optical effects for films including Terminator 2, Ghost, Altered States and Wolfen, and more recently as a digital compositing artist creating visual effects for motion pictures including Astronaut Farmer, The Sponge Bob Square Pants Movie, and James and the Giant Peach.

Long committed to nurturing the arts in Los Angeles, she has served on the board of Los Angeles Filmforum, including three terms as president, and is a founding member and past president of the NewTown Pasadena Foundation.

She currently teaches film production at USC's School of Cinematic Arts and works as a freelance documentary filmmaker while continuing to pursue her personal film work.
