Tomonari Nishikawa
Nishikawa started filmmaking in 2001 and joined the Board of Canyon in 2008. His film and video works have been shown internationally, including NY Film Festival, Media City Experimental Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Berlinale. Nishikawa also makes film installation works using pinhole techniques that have been exhibited at San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, Still Motion in Toronto, and Headlands Center for the Arts. He works as a guest advisor for Yebisu International Festival for Arts and Alternative Visions. Nishikawa currently resides in Kuala Lumpur, as a recipient of 2008-09 Asian Public Intellectual Fellowship from The Nippon Foundation, researching experimental cinema in Southeast Asia. He has a BA (2003) in Cinema and Philosophy from SUNY Binghamton and an MFA (2006) from SF Art Institute He will be a visiting artist in the Cinema Department, SUNY Binghamton from Fall 2009 to Spring 2010.
