Bird Shit Studie #3

Rental Format(s): 16mm film

Originally generated from 2002-2004 in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, this film was made with the assistance of several birds. At the time I had a nice large aviary in my back yard which needed regular attention. Happening to be right outside my film studio, I created a system by which the bird droppings would run off the edge of aviary into a bucket of found footage. Working with three specific stocks, B&W reversal, B&W negative, and Kodachrome they were systematically treated over a two-year period. All of what you see is how it landed, some came off in early projections, though the feathers that did remain I reinforced with tape. Much restoration was needed including persuading Fotokem, a Hollywood lab, to run this shit through their nice machines. "Studie #3" differs from the previous two as it's the culmination of the most non-recognizable footage structured in two parts-b&w and the color-segmented by a brief cameo by the artists that worked tireless on this film for two years. No other filims are the works that have to do with feces, this piece grew out of amy composting/live food eating lifestyle. -cvb
