Cine-Espacios Book Release and Screening
Friday, January 26, 2024 @ 7pm
Artists’ Television Access, San Francisco
Cine-Espacios co-editor Tzutzu Matzin in person from Mexico City!
To celebrate the publication of our latest Canyon Cinemazine issue, we are hosting a release party and screening at ATA in San Francisco’s Mission District. Years in the making, the bilingual, 200+ page Cine-Espacios book compiles cinematic artifacts and ephemera, newly-translated reprints of previously-buried historical texts, and a dozen new first-person testimonials about Mexican microcinemas, independent experimental film spaces, cinephilia, and cinema-going. The volume concludes with a landmark mediagraphy inventory and accounting of films made by current and former Canyon filmmakers in Mexico.
Stop by to pick up a copy, enjoy a beverage, and watch a selection of artist-made cinema filmed in Mexico; including work by Canyon Cinema co-founders Bruce Baillie and Chick Strand, recent films by CDMX-based Canyon members Elena Pardo and Azucena Losana, and more! This event is free and open to the public.
In light of the current COVID surge, and in the interests of community safety, well-fitting masks (N95 or KN95) are strongly encouraged.
Friends of Canyon Cinema members can retrieve their complimentary copy at the event.
In addition, for Friends members at the Luminous Associate level and above, signed copies of Illuminated Hours: The Early Cinema of Nathaniel Dorsky and Jerome Hiler will also be available for pick-up at ATA.
