Canyon Cinema is pleased to announce that two stereoscopic 16mm films by Greta Snider are now available for rent. Please note that these dual projection films require a silver 3D type exhibition screen. Each film rental comes with linear polarizing filters for projectors, and audience polarizing glasses. Sound is played on a separate file. See below for exhibition instructions and information on linear polarized projection.

Instructions from Ancestors (2022, 15 minutes, color, sound, 16mm x 2)
This expanded cinema collaboration is a trip to the astral plane to encounter dissatisfied ghosts. The piece is made from ancestral film remnants from the bottom of university trim bins and from the Prelinger Archive’s castoff materials. These excess bits of the broader cultural imagination circulate, unmoored, looking for meaning, belonging, or vengeance. Instructions from Ancestors is part of my continued work in dual-projection stereoscope, which here allows an exploration of the impossible coexistence of multi-consciousness, both in spirit and in cinema. With a lyrical, transportive composition created by experimental sound artist Derek Gedalecia.

Cult of Compliance (2019, 10 minutes, color, sound, 16mm x 2)
Cult of Compliance combines original cityscape footage of tech-era San Francisco with archival film, including materials from a ubiquitous SF clothing brand’s worldwide sweatshops, and the epic struggles of organisms from an educational treasury. The film is an exploration of the conditions our institutions currently demand – irreconcilable struggle between systems and people in late capitalism. Presented in mismatched stereoscope, the film invites viewers to immerse in an affective cinema that is at once pleasurable but also impossible to resolve. The original sound composition was designed by Los Angeles audio artist Kiri Lewallen.
