We are pleased to welcome filmmaker and dear friend Zachary Epcar back to San Francisco for a very special summertime Salon. Repurposing massage-chair unboxing videos algorithmically scraped from the internet’s endless depths, posthuman luxury condominium fly-through tours, the high melodrama of half-remembered nineties soap operas, and other fragments from life under a form of capitalism that has advanced beyond “late” to oneiric new heights, Epcar’s films register the affective experience of the contemporary moment with wit, humor and surprising pathos. His Return to Forms, and a new work-in-progress, Billy, screen alongside films from Canyon filmmakers Dorothy Wiley, Scott Stark, Lynn Marie Kirby, Amy Halpern, and Leighton Pierce that locate alien beauty, ritual significance, rhythmic intensity, and narrative energy in cooking, domestic interior space, Los Angeles municipal landscaping, and unsexy moments captured on pornographic VHS tapes.

As always, this event is free and open to the public, with refreshments served beginning at 7:00 and the doors closed for the start of the show at 7:30. An informal conversation with the filmmaker will follow the screening.

Program includes:
Cabbage by Dorothy Wiley (1972, 9 minutes, 16mm)
Noema by Scott Stark (1998, 11 minutes, 16mm)
Return to Forms by Zachary Epcar (2016, 9 minutes, 16mm on video)
Three Voices by Lynn Marie Kirby (1983, 5 minutes, 16mm)
Palm Down by Amy Halpern (2012, 6 minutes, 16mm)
